Ashley Benson Joins Adam Sandler in ‘Pixels’

Posted by: | Filed in: News & Rumors, Pixels | No Comments

THEWRAP.COM“Pretty Little Liars” star Ashley Benson has joined the cast of Sony’s Adam Sandler action-comedy “Pixels,” TheWrap has learned.

Kevin James, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage co-star alongside Michelle Monaghan and Brian Cox.

“Pixels” is based on Patrick Jean’s buzzed-about short film, which depicted popular 1980s video game characters attacking New York City.

The feature follows aliens who misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them and attack Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team’s weapons specialist.

Benson will play Lady Lisa, a beautiful warrior from the fictional ’80s video game Dojo Quest.

Chris Columbus is directing the big-budget 2015 summer tentpole, which was written by Tim Herlihy and Tim Dowling, based on a story by Herlihy.

Sandler and Columbus are producing with Mark Radcliffe and Allen Covert, while the executive producers Barry Bernardi, Michael Barnathan, Jack Giarraputo, Heather Parry, Steve Koren, Benjamin Darras, Johnny Alves, Matias Boucard, Seth Gordon and Ben Waisbren, as well as Herlihy and Jean.

Production is currently under way, as the film is slated to invade theaters on May 15, 2015.

After starring on “Days of Our Lives” and “Eastwick,” Benson landed the star-making role of Hanna Marin on the hit ABC Family series “Pretty Little Liars.” On the big screen, she most recently starred alongside Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco in Harmony Korine’s indie hit “Spring Breakers.”

Benson is represented by WME, LBI Entertainment and attorney Dave Feldman.

Esquire Q&A: Ashley Benson Welcomes You to Summer with a Slurpee — and a Bikini

Posted by: | Filed in: Bring It On: In It to Win It, Interviews, Pretty Little Liars, Spring Breakers | No Comments

ESQUIRE.COM – Ashley Benson has an unusual amount of pull when it comes to the changing of the seasons this year. She helped kick off spring in very high gear with her turn as the notorious bikini-clad Brit in Spring Breakers. Now she’s showing us how to cool down by taking the first Slurpee sip of the summer at 7-Eleven, even if our calendar says we’re still a few weeks off. (To be fair, it is pretty damn hot out.) After Benson downed her ceremonial beverage in Los Angeles Wednesday, the actress (who also stars on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars) talked to us about stepping out of her cultural comfort zone for Spring Breakers and the movie she’s writing about, well, “stuff.”

ESQUIRE.COM: So wait, why does your sip get to decide the beginning of summer?
ASHLEY BENSON: I have no idea, but 7-Eleven approached me and I’ve been drinking Slurpees since I was a kid, so I was super-excited to get involved. I guess people think I’m pretty cool.

ESQ: Apparently. What’s your favorite flavor?
AB: Well, they have a new one called Slurpee Light Sugar Free Sprite, which is a tongue twister. It’s only twenty calories, so it’s great for summer. Great for girls who want to be in bikinis and have a Slurpee and never feel guilty. And it tastes kind of amazing. I’ve had about six today.

ESQ: Is that your flavor of choice now?
AB: No. I like this new one, but I’ve always been a Coke girl. Love Coke.

ESQ: I was always the kid pulling nine different levers into the same drink. And I still kind of am.
AB: Oh God.

ESQ: I know. So Spring Breakers was pretty different from everything else you had done up to that point.
AB: That’s kind of why I did it. I’ve never played a character like Brit, so it was kind of a risk. But I didn’t really care. I wanted people to see a whole different side of me.

ESQ: Was it a conscious decision to show people that side at this stage of your career?
AB: Actually, it’s not really about that. I’ve always gravitated toward edgier films and that’s what I wanted to do for my first film. I explained that to my agent and he brought me Spring Breakers, and it was exactly what I wanted. It’s kind of crazy. I don’t know. I think my fans are getting older and I wanted to get new fans. [Director] Harmony [Korine] fans are amazing, and I just wanted other people to see me in a different way.

Ashley Benson in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’: Will She Play Ana Steele?

Posted by: | Filed in: Interviews, Movie Projects, News & Rumors, Pretty Little Liars | No Comments

WETPAINT.COM – Ashley Benson shocked audiences this spring with her gritty flick, Spring Breakers. So when Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Ashley at the Summer Slurpee Days event in Los Angeles, we had to ask about what she was doing next. Could the rumors about her interest in the big screen adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey be true? Is Ashley ready to play Anastasia Steele?

Read our interview with Ashley below to find out what she had to say about her future big screen aspirations.

Wetpaint Entertainment: How would you describe Season 4 of Pretty Little Liars?
Ashley Benson: Scary, fun, exciting, throws you off a bit.

You went off and did movies as well. Is it nice to come back?
Yes, definitely. It’s always nice to come back. I mean, I love doing movies. Right when we wrap, hopefully, I start working on a couple movies, so it’s nice. But they’re like my family, so it’s always nice to go back to them.

What do you want to do next?
A great movie with a really cool Indie director. I love edgy films. I would love to do a comedy, but I’m just really into like an edgy mood. So I would love to do something like that.

Like in the vein of Spring Breakers?
No. Different. I mean, I guess just a darker character. I have a few things that I’m deciding between. I’m on hiatus right now, and they’re all kind of very edgy and raw, organic. It’s really cool.

And Fifty Shades of Grey, anything happening there?
Oh, man. I’ve been linked to that movie so many times. It’s so funny. I don’t know. It depends. It might be a bit of a stretch. I don’t know if I could do all that.

Ashley Benson on PLL’s “Crazy, Unexpected, Scary” Season 4

Posted by: | Filed in: Interviews, Pretty Little Liars, Spring Breakers | No Comments

CELEBUZZ.COM – Calling all Pretty Little Liars fans. Ashley Benson is dishing on Season 4, her dream role, what kind of guy she’s on the lookout for this summer and more.

Celebuzz got the chance to catch up with the PLL star yesterday after she kicked-off 7-Eleven’s Summer Slurpee Days in Hollywood, announcing that all medium-sized Slurpee drinks are 49-cents for Memorial Day Weekend. Pretty Little Liars watchers have been waiting months to find out what’s in store for the girls (um–what’s in the trunk?!) so we asked her what we can expect when the June 11th premiere rolls around.

Ashley teased, “You’ll find out who’s in the trunk. You will see a lot of stuff with me and my mom, we get into a lot of trouble this season. A lot of Haleb stuff. A lot of Mona coming into the PLLs–that’s gonna be kinda weird.”

Yay, Haleb! But when we mentioned her co-star and good friend Tyler Blackburn’s (Caleb) departure to PLL spin-off Ravenswood, Ashley expressed her dismay. “I can’t talk about it, I’m so sad.”

Toby is another question mark for Pretty Little Liars fans, so we had to ask if we can trust him. Her response? “Ooh, I don’t know. You can’t trust anybody on this show. It’s really hard ’cause good guys come out and you’re just like, ‘what?’ So…I don’t know. As of now? I guess.”

As for any shocking deaths this season? “There’s always death in PLL,” Ashley said. Interesting…

Benson talked a little about how her character Hanna has changed over the last four seasons. “She’s gotten more independent. She has more of a voice. She’s really protective of her friends and she’s just a tough girl.” We also asked her which PLL she relates to the most and she told us, “I relate to Hanna and her humor because that’s me, like everything she says is me. The writers have gotten to know me so well, so that’s cool.” She also remarked that she doesn’t relate to Spencer, but likes her and Emily’s clothes.

Ashley recently took a darker turn for her role in Spring Breakers. So, what would be her dream role and who would be her dream co-stars?

Ashley Benson Talks Dating Rumors and Beauty Secrets

Posted by: | Filed in: Beauty & Style, Interviews, Pretty Little Liars, Spring Breakers | No Comments

HUFFINGTONPOST.COM – These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous “insiders.” After a while, it’s easy to forget that stars are real people. That’s why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question-and-answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they’ve shared their guiltiest pleasures?

Ashley Benson has been known as scene-stealer Hanna Marin on the ABC Family hit “Pretty Little Liars” for the past three years, and more recently ventured into edgier territory with Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers.”

While helping 7-Eleven kick off the season by taking the ceremonial first Slurpee sip of summer Wednesday, Benson, 23, chatted with HuffPost Celebrity about summer beauty secrets, devout “PLL” fans and why you can’t believe everything that you read.

Have you always been a Slurpee enthusiast?
Yeah, I’ve been having Slurpees since I was really young. My dad gets his coffee at 7-Eleven, so I’ve always been getting Slurpees. My friends like them as well, and they’re a good drink for the summer.

What’s your gulity pleasure?
Ice cream.

What’s one item that’s always in your refrigerator?
Ice cream. You can always find bottles of water, almond milk and ice cream.

How do you stay in shape and keep up that “Spring Breakers” body?
I’m trying to get in shape at the moment, so I guess just having a trainer, trying to eat healthier, SoulCycle, maybe some yoga — even though I haven’t done it before, I’m going to try it.

What’s your summer beauty staple?
A great moisturizer. Chanel has this amazing luminiscent foundation that makes your skin really glowy — it’s really cool for summer. I love long skirts, Slurpees, the Slurpee Lite Sugar Free Sprite flavor. It’s only 20 calories, there’s no sugar — great for that bikini body. That’s a good summer must-have.

The Suffolk Voice: An Interview with Ashley Benson and Harmony Korine

Posted by: | Filed in: Interviews, Spring Breakers | No Comments

In my review of “Spring Breakers” for The Suffolk Voice, I referred to it as our generation’s version of “Easy Rider.” It has the potential, like Dennis Hopper’s initial directorial masterpiece, to transform the way that this generation views movies altogether.

It could also change the way that films are financed so that auteurs are given more freedom, and so that people like Harmony Korine are given the resources that they need in order to make unhinged masterpieces like this.

However, Korine has never been one to be exempt from directorial freedom. The writer of “Kids” has made a handful of movies since 1996 that can, in the simplest way, described as experimental. They include “Gummo,” “Julien Donkey-Boy,” “Mister Lonely,” and most recently “Trash Humpers” – none of them receiving wide distribution. “Spring Breakers” has already grossed more than all of Korine’s other films COMBINED, in part due to the fact that it has a highly recognizable cast – including a role played by “Pretty Little Liars’” Ashley Benson.

The Suffolk Voice recently got the chance to interview Korine and Benson about “Spring Breakers.” The interview was completed over the phone with The Suffolk Voice along with other members of the press.

Harmony Korine: Hello, Ashley?

Ashley Benson: Hey Harm!

Harmony Korine: What’s up?

Ashley Benson: I don’t even know what we’re doing…

Harmony Korine: Me neither. Is anyone else here?

Press: How does music influence your writing and vision of films? Does it serve as a guiding force?

Harmony Korine: Music is a huge part; sound is a huge part; energy is a huge part. I listen to music constantly. Sound is half of what a film is. I definitely pay attention to it.

Press: Ashley, you’re known for your role in “Pretty Little Liars” – most of your audience knows you from that role… So why the huge jump to this?

Ashley Benson: I don’t know, I’ve been on that show for 4 years now and I feel as if people see me a certain way because of it. I wanted to do a film that was different than anything I’d ever done. I read Harmony’s script and I liked it. I wanted the chance to work with Harmony and James [Franco] and do something different.

Q: This film really starts off showing spring break as something like a wet dream, but it progressively evolves into more of a nightmare. Do you see spring break as a wet dream or a nightmare, or both?

Harmony Korine: A wet dream… Damn, wet dream… You know, I see it as it is in the movie. I guess if you want to say some of it’s a wet dream that’s okay, but it is what the movie is. It’s how it plays out. There are emotions, images, ambiguities, strangeness, and horrors all kind of mixed up and dancing together – kind of a cultural mash-up or interpretation of all these feelings.
